Almagro Arapiles Gaztambide Ríos Rosas Trafalgar Vallehermoso

Chamberí takes its name from Chambéry (Savoy), brought by French monks in the 17th century. It was an independent municipality until its annexation to Madrid in 1860 under the Castro Ensanche Plan. What was once rural land became a residential quarter for the bourgeoisie, with wide streets, boulevards and stately architecture that remains one of its greatest assets today.

Its six barrios (Almagro, Trafalgar, Arapiles, Gaztambide, Ríos Rosas and Vallehermoso) each have distinct personalities. Almagro, known as the "Golden Triangle", is the district's ultra-premium area averaging €9,524/m². Trafalgar revolves around Plaza de Olavide, which the Financial Times called "the European dream". The district average reaches €8,950/m², at historic highs.

The cultural heritage is exceptional: Museo Sorolla (the painter's house-museum with a historic garden), Andén 0 at the Chamberí ghost station (opened in 1919, now a free museum with original Sevillian tiles), the Canal de Isabel II Exhibition Hall (1907 elevated water tank, now a contemporary photography gallery, Europa Nostra Award 1992) and the Mercado de Vallehermoso (1930).

The district boasts seven Michelin-starred restaurants (Coque, El Invernadero, Clos Madrid, Smoked Room, Saddle, La Tasquería and Quimbaya), plus the renowned Calle Ponzano as a gastronomic hub. Around 30 buildings hold Cultural Heritage status: neo-Mudéjar, neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau façades, entrance halls with original stained glass and high ceilings.

Six metro lines (1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 10) and an airport connection via line 8 ensure total connectivity.
